HUT TO HUT HIKING

Highlights: On this route you will find the 400-year old mountain pasture “Karseggalm”, where you can have a look at the production of cheese once a week.
Description: By car or hiking taxi on the trail Labenbach in the town Au to the bridge Sonneggbrücke 3753 ft (1.144m) – parking space – climbing up on a forest road to the mountain pasture Unterwandalm, 5249 ft (1.600m) (approx. 1 ¾ hours). Alternatively: Continue by car to the parking space of the mountain pasture Breitenebenalm (barrier). From this point climbing up along a trail to the highest courts and then continue on a beautiful mountain pasture climb in the direction of the mountain pasture Unterwandalm; shortly before reaching a cottage, the climb crosses the forest road leading to the Unterwandalm (approx. 1 ¼ hours) – from here on a horizontal mountain pasture climb to the mountain pasture Karseggalm, 5259 ft (1.603m) (about 20 minutes). The old smokehouse is absolutely worth seeing. Continue on a forest road through Almmatten and a high spruce forest. Some 328 feet (100m) after the mountain pasture gate, you´ll find a climb on the right side which leads through mountain meadows with spruce and maple down to the mountain pasture Breitenebenalm, 4658 ft (1.420m) (approx. ½ hour to ¾ hour), which is known for its excellent strudel and pastries. From the Breitenebenalm on the forest road back to the car (approx. ½ hour to ¾ hour).

Walking distance: approx. 5 miles (8,1 km)
Altitude difference: 4294 feet (1.309 m)

Highlights: Wonderful ridge hike in the skiing area Großarl-Dorfgastein with a view on the mountain Großglockner.
Description: By the panoramic funicular of the valley of Grossarl to the panoramic plateau, 6036 ft (1.840m) – easy climb on the Kreuzkogel 6650 ft (2.027m) (approx. ¾ hour) – easy ridge hike with short ascents and descents along the ridge of the Kreuzkogel, 6650 ft (2.027m), across the Fulseck, 6676 ft (2.035m) (= mountain station of the Dorfgastein funiculars) to the Arltör, 5895 ft (1.797m) (1 ½ hours) – climbing down to the cottage Berglandhaus, 5351 ft (1.631m) – continue as follows:
a) On the forest road in the direction of the valley to the farm Lainholz – continue along the path Rattersberg (road back to Grossarl), about 2 hours.
b) On the forest road passing by the mountain pasture Roslehen-Hochalm – after some 328 feet (100m) turn right at the fork – this mountain pasture trail passes by the Roslehen-Heimalm across the Unterberggraben onto the forest road, after a few minutes on foot in direction of the valley you´ll reach the tavern Alpentaverne, 4350 ft (1.326m) (about ¾ hour, opened only when the funicular is operated) – climbing down to the valley on the forest road to Grossarl (approx. 2 ½ hours) or by funicular starting at the middle station.
