Fishing in the Austrian Lakes
Fishing in the valley of Grossarl, Austria, is just one of the many great ways to enjoy your time during your cheap summer holidays abroad. The valley of Grossarl offers a unique opportunity for all those ones who want to spend their cheap summer holidays abroad in a different way: From 1st May until 30th September, the valley of the 40 mountain pastures turns into a paradise for anglers. The area of the Grossarler Ache is a great destination for fly fishing. In the lake Ötzlsee you will find the rarely seen silver-shimmering alpine salmon which may be up to 120 centimetres.
Area A: Großarler Ache
- Fishing water borders: Steinbruch to just before the Schappach tunnel
- Length: approx. 12 km (plus confluences of the various side streams)
- Flowing velocity: Slow flowing to wildly gushing (width = 3 to 14 m)
- Fish: Brook trout and grayling
Area B: Lake Ötzlsee and Ache from Schappach Tunnel to Valley Head
- Lake approx. 2 hectares in size; only reachable on foot
- 11 km stretch on the Grossarl Ache
- Fish: Brook trout, rainbow trout, char
- in this area only catch and release permitted
Important Information
- Fishing only permitted in daylight.
- It is forbidden to use boots.
- In both areas (A+B) fishing is only permitted with a fly fishing rod with wet and dry flies and only with round bend hooks.
- Fish may not be kept in keep nets.
- Fishing licences are not transferable.
